Winterize Your Car Now for Safe Driving All Season

Winterize Your Car Now for Safe Driving All Season

Now is the perfect time to winterize your vehicle

Winter is quickly approaching here in Billings and around Montana. We’re all too familiar with the sight of slide-offs and crashes on the first snowy, icy morning of the season when drivers are still adjusting to the season change. Don’t be one of those people; winterize your car or truck today.

Steps to take to winterize your car now

Get the right tires

Snow tires or all-season tires are a must in our snowy, northern climate. Depending on what your driving needs are, you may need one more than the other. Are you primarily driving in town? Are you driving most of your miles on the highway? Are you driving a car, truck, minivan, or SUV? Our tire pros can help you find the right tires for your vehicle and personal needs.

Keep visibility crystal clear

Fall is the perfect time to change your wiper blades, which need to be replaced at least once a year. You’ll need good ones to keep your windshield clear of sticking snowflakes and slush thrown from other vehicles.

Fill up your wiper fluid now, too. You can look for fluid that’s specifically made for cold-weather driving and has a low freezing point.

Bring your vehicle in for an oil change

As the weather cools down, your vehicle has to work harder to run. Cold weather makes your car’s oil thicker, which means it has a harder time moving it. If you haven’t had an oil change recently, your oil is probably already thicker than usual. Get that oil changed now to keep your car or truck running easily this winter. Remember, regular maintenance like oil changes can extend the lifespan of your vehicle.

Keep emergency supplies in your car

The last thing you want is to find yourself stranded in freezing cold weather. If this happens, make sure you’ll be safe. Keep a warm blanket, flashlight, hat and gloves, ice scraper, and a shovel in your vehicle during the winter. Bottled water and food like granola bars are also excellent provisions to keep stored in your trunk in case you need them. Be prepared for the worst circumstances, even if you never actually need your supplies.
